Ways to Help

As a fully self-funded extracurricular program, our fundraising efforts primarily go toward building our robot—covering materials, tools, and machinery. However, there are many other essential needs where community support makes a big difference! From in-kind donations and meals to volunteering and mentorship, there are plenty of ways to help. Your generosity directly equips students with hands-on STEM experience, inspiring the next generation of engineers, scientists, programmers, and leaders. Explore the ways you can make an impact today!

Sponsorship

Sponsorship plays a vital role in providing the parts, tools, and materials we need. It also helps cover travel and meal expenses, allowing our team to compete at the highest level. By sponsoring our team, you’re investing in the future of STEM education at our school and helping students developing skills that will shape them into the next generation of engineers, artists, and communicators.

Can/Bottle Donations

Don’t enjoy returning cans? Let us do it for you! Donating your returnable cans/bottles to the Steel Sturgeons is an easy way to help. We can accept any Michigan returnables (cans, bottles, and even glass milk containers). Drop off your returnables at Greenspire High School’s main office (2200 Dendrinos Dr.) or any of our drop-off locations:

In-kind / Food Donations

In-kind donations help our team with much needed supplies, and help families of students cover costs during practices and competitions. Approximately 40% of GHS students are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch programs (as of 2023), therefore food donations help students of all incomes participate in robotics.

There are many ways to support us—from small to large donations, or whether you are a friend, family member or business. Drinks and snacks help our team get through practice after school hours. Those and other needed supplies can be easily purchased and shipped via our Amazon Wish List. Competition meals help us stay fed and focused on the game, which can often last all day (allergy-friendly needed). All donations are tax deductable!

Volunteering / Mentorship

Our students thrive on the support of dedicated volunteers and mentors. Many assume that being part of a robotics team means just building robots, but that’s not the case. Marketing, fundraising, and community engagement are vital to our success. If you have a passion for business, fundraising, outreach, or social media, or if you’re skilled in electricity, wood or metal working, CNC operation, engineering, programming, or more—we need your help! No experience is required. This is a learning environment where students develop real-world skills. If you’re interested in mentoring or volunteering, contact us!
